Councils and Committees

Standing councils and committees are established to serve the needs and interests of MSU Texas and its affiliated entities. These bodies play a valuable role in the administrative process by leveraging the collective expertise, insight, and dedication of individuals across the MSU Texas community.

These councils and committees function primarily as advisory bodies unless explicitly assigned additional responsibilities. They are not intended to assume the authority or duties designated to specific administrative offices. Nevertheless, the ideas and recommendations generated by these groups are instrumental in supporting administrators in their ongoing efforts to enhance institutional operations and to foster well-informed decision-making.

Beyond their administrative contributions, councils and committees provide members with meaningful opportunities to engage in the governance process, support their personal and professional development, and deepen their understanding of the functions and initiatives of MSU Texas and its affiliated entities.

Structures of councils and committees are managed by general guidelines. Faculty members representing their constituencies are recommended by that constituency, or a representative body of that constituency. Standing members are assigned by position or title. Chairs are selected from the previous year's committee membership, unless otherwise noted. Faculty and staff terms are two years, staggered, unless otherwise noted. Alternate members, when serving in the regular member’s place, have the same rights and privileges as the regular member. Following their term as alternates, faculty alternates move to committee member status. Student terms are for one year. All committee members are ultimately approved and appointed by the president.
