Registrar Commencement

May 2021 Graduation

Dear MSU Class of May 2021:

Congratulations! The MSU Administration and Office of the Registrar are working together to plan an in-person commencement ceremony celebrating your accomplishments.  To that end, we ask for your cooperation with the required health and safety protocols that will be put in place.  Below are outlined plans as they currently stand.  Please refer back to this webpage as updates or changes are likely, due to the ever-changing nature of the pandemic and how it is managed.

Please note:  REGARDLESS OF THE DATE OF YOUR CEREMONY, YOUR OFFICIAL GRADUATION DATE ON YOUR DIPLOMA WILL BE MAY 1, 2021.

Master’s Degree Candidates – will have a ceremony at 6:00 p.m., FRIDAY, April 30, in D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the Midwestern State University campus.  Graduates, faculty, guests, and all participants will be required to wear face coverings.  Doors will open at 5:00 p.m.  More details have been sent to the Master’s degree candidates via the preferred email on file.

Graduation candidates ONLY will be permitted to enter the Southwest doors (tennis court side, doors nearest Midwestern Parkway) to be checked in at the small Don Flatt Gymnasium at the far south end of building for the processional.  Please arrive wearing your regalia and Master’s Hood.  Participating FACULTY only, will be permitted to enter the Northwest door (tennis court side nearest the weight training room entry) for lining up for the processional.  Each graduation candidate will receive 5 tickets for guests which they are allowed to invite to the ceremony.  The seats will be assigned in a socially distanced manner, and cooperation with this is required.  All graduates, faculty, and guests are required to maintain social distancing at any time a line is queued up for entering or exiting the coliseum.  Participants who do not abide by the required safety protocols will not be permitted to remain or participate.  The clear bag requirement remains in effect for all guests.

Master's Ceremony:  After crossing the stage and taking the second photo, students graduating are given the option of exiting the coliseum out the Northwest ramp, (back ramp of ceremony, tennis court side) to meet their guests and depart the facility immediately, OR returning to their seats with their fellow graduates in order to be present the entire ceremony and march in the recessional.  This is a smaller sized ceremony, so it should not take long for all participating students to finish crossing the stage.  This information is being given so that you can plan accordingly with your guests.
