Celebrate MSU Texas Traditions

Mustangs' years are filled with traditions that show our MSU Texas pride. From events including the Cardboard Boat Race in Sikes Lake (followed by a tasty Homecoming Fish Fry), to everyday customs such as making the Mustangs Hand Sign during the Alma Mater, you will find your place within our legacy in ways big and small.

Mustangs Hand Sign

The Mustangs Hand Sign is a configuration you make with your hand to identify yourself to your fellow Mustangs or while singing the Alma Mater. To make the Mustangs Sign, bring your two middle fingers down to touch the tip of your thumb (this becomes the Mustang's nose!) and extend the two remaining fingers up (this becomes the Mustang's ears!).

Homecoming

Each fall, we welcome Mustangs from near and far to celebrate Homecoming Weekend here in Wichita Falls. The weekend is filled with events including a festive Homecoming Bonfire, a Cardboard Boat Race in Sikes Lake, a tasty Homecoming Fish Fry, and plenty of tailgating and cheering on the Mustangs in our home games.

Mustangs Stampede Week

Mustangs Stampede Week takes place the first week of each semester and features a ton of activities for students to make friends, connect with our campus, and to just have fun before the semester kicks off. Some of the Stampede Week activities include outdoor movies, crafts, cookouts, and so much more.

Community Health Fair

Each year in March the Gunn College of Health Sciences & Human Services presents the Community Health Fair featuring free health screening and educational demonstrations in health practices such as CPR. Students from nursing, respiratory therapy, radiology, exercise physiology, and dental hygiene students participate in the fair. Screenings include blood pressure readings, blood glucose, lung function, and BMI.

Maverick's Day of Service

Each April, students, faculty and staff participate in Maverick's Day of Service. The annual event promotes civic engagement by providing opportunities to serve local nonprofit organizations in Wichita Falls.

Live at the Lake

Each summer the Wichita Falls Museum of Art at MSU Texas hosts music and arts at the Priddy Pavilion with local food trucks onsite. Grab a lawn chair, BYOB (beverage) and bring your family or friends for an evening with the arts.

MSU Texas Athletics

The MSU Texas Mustangs represent 13 NCAA Division II teams and complete as members of the Lone Star Conference. It is not hard to feel the MSU Texas pride and spirit when you are at one of our games. Soon, you too will be saying, "Go Mustangs!"
