Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee

Purpose

To ensure the proper care and use of animals in research and ensure compliance with all federal and state requirements for the use of animals in research, as well as with established good practices in animal care and research.

Meets at least once annually, then as needed to review proposals

Personnel

One appointed institutional official (MCOSME Dean) who will bear ultimate responsibility for the animal care and use program; an attending veterinarian (AV) with animal care and use program responsibilities, who may be a consultant; one scientist experienced in laboratory animal procedures; one non-scientist (both appointed by Provost in collaboration with IACUC chair), and one public member with no other affiliation with the University.
