Description

Specialized library work involving performance of duties required in the operation of the library. Some familiarity with the terminology, content, and classification schemes of the collection is necessary. Work of employees in this class is carried on within the framework of established library policies and standard practices, although there is opportunity for limited use of independent, technical, and professional judgment. Employees in this class may supervise other employees. Part of Technical Services and reports to the Serials and Electronic Resources Librarian.

 
Examples

Aids faculty and students in the use of the library. Answers factual or directional questions involving the use of standard reference tools and library guides. Manages the Interlibrary Loan Department and processes the borrowing requests of patrons and the lending of materials to other libraries. Assists with the daily routines of the Serial & Electronic Resources Department. Assists the Catalog Librarian with processing new materials. Mediates email notifications to patrons. Verifies bibliographic entries.

 
Physical Condition
Experience

One year of experience in general office and clerical work.

 
Knowledge

Working knowledge of library routines and procedures. Ability to plan and organize routine library assignments on a small scale. Ability to perform complex assignments and record keeping tasks under supervision. Ability to train and supervise assistants in carrying out operations within the area of the employee's responsibility.

 
Education

Bachelor's degree. One year of college or research library experience (12 hours of applicable Library Science credit from an ALA accredited library school may be substituted for one year of academic library experience).

 
Additional Requirements

Attention to detail, accuracy, good analytical skills. Able to organize materials, type, use computer applications. Some moderate lifting required. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.
