Responsibilities

The Department of Sociology in the Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Midwestern State University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure track Assistant Professor, to begin in Fall 2026.

As a faculty member in the Department of Sociology, you will be expected to:

(1) Teach 12 credit hours (4 courses) a semester; (2) Contribute to the teaching mission of Sociology; (3) Mentor undergraduate students; (4) Develop a record of research; and (5) Provide service to the department, college, university and to the community.

About the College:

The Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences consists of the academic departments of English, humanities, and philosophy; history; psychology; political science; sociology; and world languages and cultures. Each department offers majors, minors, and core curriculum courses. Faculty development funding is available at the university, college, and departmental levels.

Requirements

Required Qualifications (should be populated into search committee matrix):

1.    ABD or Ph.D. in Sociology.

2.    Ability to teach research methods and sociological theory, areas of interest are in Criminology or Medical Sociology, other areas of interest are open.

Preferred Qualifications (should be populated into search committee matrix):

1.    Teaching experience.

2.    Experience with outreach or service to the discipline or community.

Requires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Personal cell phone usage may be required to complete position duties, including multi-function authentication requirements. Regular reliable attendance is required.
