The Assistant Director is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive career management and job development program for Midwestern State University students, graduating seniors, and alumni. Reports to the Director of the Career Management Center (CMC).
- Examples
-
Manages the CMC’s comprehensive, integrated, and responsive career and employer development components. Leads the creation and implementation of career and employment specific events and activities. Creates marketing and promotion material for all student, employer, and networking related services to increase the visibility of students to employers. Develops and conducts presentations to both on-campus and off campus constituents. Assists students in developing resume writing, cover letter writing, and interviewing skills. Educates students on how to conduct an effective and successful job search. Teaches students how to network effectively and make a positive lasting impression. Assists students in the evaluation of employment opportunities and job offers. Serves on university committees and work groups as needed to promote the vision and goals of the CMC. Provides leadership, oversight, training and supervision of professional and student staff. Fulfills other duties as assigned by the Director.

Prior experience in career services, development, or education preferred. Prior experience in higher education preferred. Experience in preparing and delivering high quality presentations in-person as well as using electronic resources such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting outcomes data to inform continuous improvement to internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge

Knowledge of career development, career and job market trends, employer relations, self-promotion and awareness, experiential learning, and contemporary recruitment methodologies. Knowledge of career management technologies and platforms preferred. Proficient in 21st century computer software applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Outlook, …etc.

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

Use sound management principles in the daily operation of a comprehensive college career development program. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across campus and community stakeholders; skilled in managing and supporting student employees, utilizing career development and industry relation technologies, and serving as an effective liaison through outreach and resource promotion. Ability to provide responsive guidance regarding job search strategies. Must set priorities, goals and/objectives, and contribute to long-range planning and strategy for the department. Lead initiatives that strengthen students’ career readiness and employment outcomes. Analytically skilled and capable of interpreting hiring and talent development trends, and designing programs that prepare students for college and career success from enrollment through post-graduation employment. Must possess exceptional customer service and time management skills.

Requires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
