Performs general repair and maintenance work for the Office of Housing in the University's residence halls and apartments. Work involves carpentry, painting, limited plumbing, limited appliance repairs, limited electrical repairs, and limited air conditioning work. Work also involves coordinating larger repairs and repairs requiring specific trade skills with the physical plant personnel; ordering of supplies and materials; preventive maintenance schedule and record keeping. Individual must develop and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers in the department as well as physical plant. Work is performed with considerable independence. Reports to the Central Plant Superintendent.
- Examples

Performs minor maintenance repairs in residence hall rooms and apartments. Orders/ inventories custodial supplies. Changes air conditioning filters; services units in apartments. Monitors all maintenance repairs. Moves heavy equipment/furniture. Performs minor construction and completes some painting. Replaces door grills, repairs room and lounge furniture, replaces light bulbs. NOTE: These examples are not inclusive of all work performed, but are a representative sample. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Physical Condition
-
Some heavy lifting (60 pounds or more) and ability to work from ladders and in close spaces. Must have sufficient strength and stamina to perform a variety of manual tasks associated with duties.
- Experience
-
Must have experience in a broad range of maintenance duties including, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, A/C and heat, carpentry and painting as well as general maintenance work. Experience in other areas of repair work is desirable.
- Knowledge
-
Knowledge of building maintenance methods including modern methods of use and care of equipment and cleaning supplies. Knowledgeable in use of hand and power tools. Must be familiar with the use and care of manual and mechanical types of equipment and tools. Must have a general knowledge of building materials and hardware.
- Education

Graduation from an approved high school or GED degree highly desirable.
- Additional Requirements

Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and departments. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. *Physical exam required.* Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis.
