Responsibilities

The Department of Mathematics at Midwestern State University invites applications for a full-time 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026. As a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics you will be expected to:

1.        Teach 12 credit hours (generally four courses) per semester (fall and spring) of developmental, introductory, or advanced undergraduate mathematics, primarily face-to-face at MSU's campus in Wichita Falls, TX.

2.        Pursue an active research agenda in mathematics or a closely related field

3.        Participate in departmental, college, and university service and administration

Requirements


Required Qualifications include:

1.       Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field, such as statistics or applied

mathematics (ABD is acceptable at time of selection, but completion date must be no later than August 1, 2026.)

2.       Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses. Teaching as a graduate student is applicable a􀂬 long as it includes primary responsibility for a course.

3.       Active research agenda in mathematics or a closely related field

4.       Strong communication skills

5.       Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships

 

Preferred Qualifications include:

1.       Successful student mentoring and/or community engagement

2.       A record of peer-reviewed mathematics research

Requires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Personal cell phone usage may be required to complete position duties, including multi-function authentication requirements. Regular reliable attendance is required.

The Department of Mathematics consists of fifteen faculty members and offers a BS and BA in mathematics along with courses supporting all university programs. The department takes a collaborative approach to teaching and research, with partnerships throughout the university.
