Responsibilities

The Department of History in the Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Midwestern State University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Texas History to begin in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will teach a 4-4 load that serves the core curriculum, the department's majors, and our teacher certification program. Professors typically teach multiple sections of one-half of the American history survey and an upper-level course in their expertise. The successful candidate will teach Texas History once a year to serve our teacher certification students, and they will develop other upper-level courses that enrich the department's offerings. The department is particularly interested in scholars of Texas history that can teach courses in Native American, borderlands, and/or Mexican American history. In addition to teaching duties, the successful candidate will engage in scholarly activities and service to the department, college, and university.

Requirements

Applicants must have experience working with student populations at the undergraduate level. Additional qualifications include a completed PhD in United States History with a specialization in Texas history at the time of appointment, a strong commitment to teaching and mentorship, and the ability to teach in-person and online

Requires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Personal cell phone usage may be required to complete position duties, including multi-function authentication requirements. Regular reliable attendance is required.

This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check. Position is designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX. May serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
