Title
Web Specialist
Description

The Web Specialist uses creative and web development expertise to design, develop, modernize, and improve the website combining aesthetic form, brand standards, and practical functionality creating a unified and consistent presence for Midwestern State University.   

Examples

Provides creative direction (both design and editorial) for all online content. Undertakes ongoing user needs assessments including current users and editors, potential users and editors, and key Dean’s Office Stakeholders. Assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications plan for the Midwestern State University website. Web Specialist I assists the project manager for all non-maintenance web enhancement projects. Web Specialist II serves as the project manager for all non-maintenance web enhancement projects. Generates efficiencies in web maintenance through systematizing ownership, generating targeted training, and prioritizing editing assistance. Logs and analyzes usage patterns, ticket requests, and general time utilization trends and brainstorm ways to develop efficiency for web editing team. Keeps current with appropriate and potentially beneficial advances in web software and electronic design. Works towards a consistent look and feel across the entire University such that all pages would be recognized as part of one broader website. Curates resources or leverages existing online resources for delivering targeted training and makes recommendations for how BEST to guide people to solve technical issues. Ensures compliance with Campus Security, ADA standards and accessibility concerns for all users and inform all editors on respective responsibilities. Liaises with technical staff within University System as needed and to ensure consistency and compliance. Creates and maintains content as requested. Ensures all maintenance and ticket requests maintain consistency in look and feel across the entire University, including all campuses. Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Experience

Experience with content management systems required.



Knowledge

Must have knowledge of web accessibility standards and guidelines, an understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git) and knowledge of back-end technologies ( e.g., PHP).  Must be proficient in web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 

Education

College/vocational/technical training with a concentration in computer science, graphic design, journalism, English, technical communication or related fields. Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements

Must be able to perform detailed work accurately and to work effectively with others. Must be dependable and have a positive attitude towards the work environment. Requires good verbal and written communication skills as well as keyboarding skills. Strong skills in planning organization, active listening and attention to details; ability to take initiative, multi-task and work cross-functionally. 

Standard Requirements

Requires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Personal cell phone usage may be required to complete position duties, including multi-function authentication requirements. Regular reliable attendance is required.

This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check. Position is designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX. May serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
