- Description
Promote student involvement and engagement through student organizations, fraternity and sorority life, and student leadership development programs. Support all registered student organizations by planning and implementing student organization trainings, leadership development workshops and student organization advisor trainings. Advise, as needed, fraternity and sorority governing councils (IFC, MGC, NPC) and/or the Order of Omega National Greek Honor Society, managing specific activities such as recruitment, resource development, new member programs, leadership training, advisor development, risk management education, and program assessment. Coordinates student volunteer and service learning programming. Responsible to the Director of Student Involvement.
- Examples
Develop online and/or face-to-face training for student organizations in aspects of successful program planning, advertising, budgeting, contract negotiation, use of facilities/equipment, program arrangements, and evaluation. Provide training workshops on risk management and prevention, organization operations, recruitment, leadership, diversity, and inclusion for student organizations, including fraternities and sororities. Implement programs for students to learn about student organizations on campus and opportunities for co-curricular participation and individual growth. Assist with the implementation of fraternity and sorority recruitment activities. Organize efforts to promote awareness and participation in the fraternity and sorority community. Plan and implement annual student leadership conference programs (i.e. iLEAD and weCONNECT) as well as ongoing leadership development opportunities, and student volunteer and service learning programs. Advance philosophies of student affairs and cultural diversity while actively promoting inclusion in staffing, programming, and student leadership. Support all programs and initiatives originating in the Office of Student Involvement. Assist in the total development of the Division of Student Affairs through participation in university, division, and departmental committees. Represents the department at university functions when appropriate. Assumes responsibility for other special projects and committee work as delegated. Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Involvement.
- Physical Condition
Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over thirty pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, to climb stairs, stoop, bend, and reach overhead. Sufficient strength, stamina, and mobility to perform manual tasks associated with programming responsibilities.
- Experience
Demonstrated skill in working with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds, leading or advising student organizations, and coordinating campus activities. Prior experience in the area of fraternity and sorority life, student affairs and/or student activities is required. Prior experience in student leadership development, service learning, peer education, and program assessment preferred.
- Knowledge
Must exhibit knowledge of student development theory, student organizations, and successful program planning. Must possess skills in the areas of leadership, organization, risk management, advising, and counseling. Requires the ability to work well with diverse student groups and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty advisors and staff. Must have an understanding and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and economic diversity of students and the community. Must be proficient in the use of computers and commonly used office software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher and Outlook. Familiarity with software applications for tracking student information, student engagement, and retention data preferred.
- Education
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree, in higher education, student personnel administration, or counseling, preferred.
- Additional Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess direct and sustained experience with leadership development training, group facilitation, assessment and program evaluation, student learning, student development, and developing and applying University policies. Ability to effectively supervise students. This position has a flexible work schedule which includes some evenings and weekends. Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, advisors, faculty, administrators, and employees is required. Must have the sensitivity and skill to work with a diverse and multicultural student and employee population. Must have creative and artistic abilities and skill in planning and effectively managing multiple projects to completion. Must be proficient in the use of digital tools, resources, and technologies for the advancement of student learning and professional performance. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *Regular, reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
