Responsibilities

The Department of English, Humanities, and Philosophy at Midwestern State University seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of English and Writing Program Administrator. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience in first-year composition and a research emphasis in composition/rhetoric and Writing Program Administration.


2/2 teaching load in the Department of English, Humanities, and Philosophy, to include developing and teaching composition/rhetoric courses; advising students; and assigned service responsibilities, including the Composition Committee, Core Curriculum Committee, and University Writing Council. Writing Program Administrator duties include the following: oversee all aspects of the Writing Proficiency Requirement, which includes administering the fall, spring, and summer exam cycles; assess Writing Program objectives and outcomes; work with Department Chair in coordinating core writing courses; continue to develop and implement a Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program that will include writing intensive courses in each major; and work closely with the AVP for Academic Affairs to improve undergraduate instruction.

 
Requirements
Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric, two years of teaching excellence, experience teaching first-year composition, and scholarship demonstrating a clear agenda in Writing Program Administration. ABD candidates will be considered if the degree will be conferred by August 2023.
