Receives emergency calls and responds promptly. Analyzes situations, gathers information quickly and accurately, and dispatches patrol officers promptly. Operates police radio; maintains records of incoming calls for assistance; dispatches officers to situations requiring police response; maintains records of all police/patrol activities; monitors CCTV systems; completes appropriate reports; communicates with other police/fire/ambulance agencies; and operates various computer terminals including the CAD - "Computer Aided Dispatch" system and NLETS/TLETS.

Experience
Prior experience not required. Prior experience as a police or other emergency-services dispatcher or call-taker is desired. Prior experience in a fast-paced, high-stress, work environment is also desired.
Knowledge
Requires knowledge of and the ability to comply with departmental policy/procedure in accordance with guidelines of the Federal Communications Commission and NCIC/TCIC policies. Must possess the ability to: read and write effectively, multi-task and work cooperatively with others, comprehend technical aspects of communications equipment, communicate effectively under any condition, coordinate and direct a number of simultaneous activities without confusion, provide rapid response to law enforcement or any other emergency needs, react quickly and effectively under emergency (high stress) situations, and demonstrate tact and courtesy, even when under stress.
Physical Condition
Must be able to speak clearly and distinctly at all times. Must have the physical and mental ability to properly carry out the duties and responsibilities of a licensed telecommunications operator of Midwestern State University.
