Master of Science in Geosciences

The Robert L. Bolin Graduate School of Geology provides an opportunity for graduate studies in geosciences. We offer a traditional M.S. in geosciences through coursework and thesis. Master’s degree candidates may specialize in areas broadly within the geosciences. Research concentrations currently are within the following areas:

  1. Petroleum geology (Meddaugh)
  2. Paleontology, sedimentology, and stratigraphy (Rosscoe)
  3. Solid-earth and near-surface geophysics (Katumwehe)
  4. Remote sensing and geospatial science (Mahmud)
  5. Igneous petrology and geochemistry (Price)

Questions concerning specific thesis projects should be addressed to the appropriate faculty.  Accepted students are strongly encouraged to associate themselves with a project and faculty research advisor by the end of their first semester in the program. This faculty member will serve as the student’s graduate advisory committee chair and will be responsible for supervising the student’s degree program.
