Responsible to the Director of Recreational Sports and Wellness Center for the organization and administration of the Recreational Sports program and Wellness Center. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreational Sports and Wellness Center.
Assist in promoting student participation in Recreational Sports activities and the Wellness Center. Creates and distributes marketing items to provide information about Recreational Sports and Wellness Center programs and services. Draws up various types of Recreational Sport tournaments and league formats using software for tournament building. Conduct competitions in a wide variety of sports and recreational activities. Assist in the hiring, training, supervising and supervision of officials and other personnel for Recreational Sport activities. Assist in the hiring, training and supervision of Wellness Center personnel, including student assistants, graduate assistants, and support staff Assist with daily operations of the Wellness Center aquatics area and supervision of lifeguards. Assist with the purchase and maintenance of athletic supplies and equipment for Recreational Sports and the Wellness Center. Works with the Director of Recreational Sports and Wellness Center to ensure fields and facilities are properly maintained, safe, and functional for program utilization. Constantly makes a strong effort to ensure the safety and health of Recreational Sports and Wellness Center participants. Assists in conducting Recreational Sports Council meetings. Conducts health and fitness assessments for students, faculty, staff, and alumni to enhance personal wellness and involvement. Assists the Director with the coordination of the University's summer camp program and related compliance efforts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Condition
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Ability to stand for long periods of time, to climb stairs, to stoop, bend, and reach overhead. Sufficient strength, stamina, and mobility to perform a variety of manual tasks associated with duties.
Experience in administering and participating in a wide variety of sport and recreational activities. Experience in facility operations, program promotion, and employee management. Experience in conducting fitness-related assessments with appropriate prescription and referral, preferred.
Must be knowledgeable in a wide variety of sports, recreational activities, aquatic activities, and wellness programs applicable for university students, faculty, and staff. Must be knowledgeable in weight training, fitness, nutrition, exercise, and use of different types of weight machines and fitness equipment. Must understand the utilization of different formats and scheduling of recreational sport activities.
Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field preferred.
Additional Requirements
Must be willing to work nights and weekends and flexible/extended hours with little supervision. Must have the sensitivity and skill to create and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff. Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work under pressure and uneven time constraints. Must be creative, dependable, organized, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and demonstrate the ability to make decisions and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *Regular reliable attendance is required. * Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. *Designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
