Duties: Serve as Director of Choral Activities; direct choirs (Midwestern Singers, University Singers, Oratorio Chorus, Opera Workshop); teach basic or advanced conducting, diction, opera, and other music classes or applied voice lessons as needed; collaborate with the theatre department in musical productions, and perform other duties commensurate with experience and education. In addition, assess students, hold office hours, and engage in department, college, and university service. This includes, but is not limited to, recruiting, establishing strong working relationships with colleagues and area school directors, and representing the music department on and off campus.
The Fain College of Fine Arts and the Department of Music at Midwestern State University invite applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities, to begin August 2020. The Fain College of Fine Arts aims to be an agent of change in the community, responding to fast-moving social issues and generating change through the arts. The Department of Music is a NASM-accredited, dynamic and growing academic/artistic unit. This is an ideal position for a transformative scholar, artist, educator and leader that seeks opportunities for innovation, academic excellence, and to work in a student-centered environment. We seek a highly motivated individual seeking opportunities to transform and grow the music unit, adding to the efforts of existing faculty. We believe in preparing students to become successful professionals in the local and global context. Qualifications: A doctoral degree in choral conducting is required. Preferred qualifications include a record of successful artistic/professional achievements and prior experience in higher education.
