Performs a variety of clerical, customer service, and mail processing duties in support of University Postal Services. Responsibilities include maintaining student mailbox assignments; collecting, sorting, processing, and delivering intra-campus mail, packages, and U.S. Mail; operating postal equipment; and assisting with daily mail operations and workflow. This position ensures the secure, accurate, and timely handling of all mail and packages while providing guidance to student assistants. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may include servicing all campus mail collection and distribution locations on a scheduled route. The position reports to the Postal Services Supervisor.
- Examples

Collect, sort, process, and distribute incoming and outgoing U.S. Mail, campus mail, and packages. Maintain resident student mailbox assignments and related records with attention to detail and accuracy. Ensure the timely pickup, delivery, and security of mail and packages while in transit. Operate postage meters and other postal equipment. Process outgoing mail, including preparation and dispatch of bulk mailings. Daily mailroom operations and workflow efficiency. Prepare required USPS reports and documentation. Drive a University vehicle to collect and deliver mail along established campus routes. Assist and guide student employees. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Physical Condition

Moderate physical activity is required. Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull mail, packages, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds; the ability to handle up to 70 pounds is preferred (USPS maximum weight limit). Walk extended distances throughout campus. Stand for prolonged periods and frequently stoop, bend, reach, and climb as necessary.
- Experience

Should possess general clerical or transferable experience that demonstrates strong customer service, organizational, record-keeping, and computer skills. Candidates must be proficient in the use of standard office equipment, including computers (use of Microsoft WORD,EXCEL, etc..), postage equipment, calculators, and cash registers, and must be able to read, understand, and comply with USPS rules and regulations.
- Knowledge

Knowledge of postal operations is preferred; however, the ability to learn USPS regulations, postal guidelines, and postage rates is acceptable.The successful candidate must be able to learn and recall campus departments, building locations, and mail distribution points while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong oral and written communication skills are required, along with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
- Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Applicants must possess sufficient education to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and to safely operate office and postal equipment.
- Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to assist and guide student employees, safely operate a motor vehicle, and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and customer service skills while maintaining the confidentiality and security of University and U.S. Mail. *Requires an employment physical.
