This is skilled work in the painting of buildings, fixtures, and equipment. Work involves preparation of various types of surfaces for painting and applying paint by use of spray guns and/or brushes. Work is performed under general supervision of the Paint Forperson. The employee in this class supervises the work of Painters I in absence of the Foreperson. Work requires working on ladders and scaffolds, as well as bending and kneeling.
- Examples

Prepares surfaces for paint by scraping, sandpapering, wire brushing, and cleaning. Mixes, matches, and applies paints, varnishes, lacquers, shellacs, and other finishes. Tapes and beds sheetrock. Refinishes and restores interior and exterior painted surfaces. Paints new construction or modifications and alterations to buildings using brush, roller, or spray equipment. Refinishes office furniture, cabinets, shelves, table tops, and other furnishings. Maintains record of materials and labor expended on each job. Observes adequate fire prevention, safety, and housekeeping practices in all operations. Performs other duties as assigned and/or required.

Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds.
- Experience

Three to five years experience as a skilled painter.
- Knowledge
-
Considerable knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools, equipment, and materials of the painting trade. Considerable knowledge of the proper preparation of surfaces to be painted, and of proper methods of mixing and matching all types of paints. Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the painting trade.

Graduation from high school or vocational school.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must have some administrative skills and the ability to follow oral or written instructions; knowledge in asbestos operations and maintenance programs; the physical ability to work from ladders or scaffolds and in uncomfortable positions; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires employment physical exam. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Low) and requires a criminal background check.
