- Description
The position will remove, clean, and reinstall fan coil units (FCU) for residence hall buildings during the initial 1-2 years of the position, until the work is complete. Upon completion of the FCU cleaning, the position will perform skilled work installing, repairing, and maintaining chilled water cooling systems and apartment DX units in all residence hall buildings. Perform filter change out management for all air handling units and all fan coil units in residence hall buildings.Also performs general repair and maintenance work in residence halls and apartments. Work may involve carpentry, painting, limited plumbing, limited appliance repairs, and limited electrical repairs. Reports to the Residence Hall Maintenance Foreperson.
- Examples
Overhaul and service refrigeration units, ventilating and cooling units, and repair to air handling units, up to and including complete DX unit replacement. Change filters in all air handling units in residence hall buildings, check belt tension, bearing noise, and any unusual noise coming from units, on a regular schedule developed by the supervisor. Checks water leaks, steam leaks, stem trap operation. Lubricates motors and bearings on a regular schedule. Checks motors for proper rotation. Checks and record ampers load on all legs of each air handling unit motor. Cleans condenser coils and cooling coils on air handling units and refrigeration units. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Physical Condition
Moderate physical activity with occasional heavy lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Must not be color blind.
- Experience
Requires two or more years mechanical experience associated with HVAC, and general equipment repair and construction of systems. Prefer additional experience in a broad range of general maintenance duties including, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting.
- Knowledge
Complete knowledge of the principles, practices, materials, tools, and equipment needed for the installation, repair, and maintenance of air conditioning, heating, ventilating, and commercial refrigeration. Skill in locating and correcting defects in this equipment and in the use of those tools and meters needed to diagnose problems. Ability to lay-out and supervise new installations. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and read blue prints and sketches. Knowledge of electrical systems and troubleshooting. Knowledge of steam systems. Must be able to use test meters and diagnose problems. Knowledge in the use of tools and torches in accordance with EPA rules. Ability to use a computer.
- Education
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Vocational technical school training in HVAC systems repair and installation preferred.
- Additional Requirements
Must be fully aware of the hazards and safety precautions necessary to do the above, in an efficient manner. Must be capable of maintaining records and reports for daily duties and preventative maintenance. Must be capable of working independently with limited supervision. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *Requires employment physical exam.
