Title
Library Circulation Manager - Night
Description

The Circulation Night Manager oversees the process of checking materials in and out of the library, supervises student workers, and secures the building at the end of the day. Utilizes the library’s circulation software to find materials for patrons, and must have knowledge of the various features of the software, such as fines, inventory and patron lists. The Circulation Night Manager has working understanding of the library’s holdings and essential patron services. Supervises the student workers as they check out materials to patrons, shelve returned items, and answer basic questions. Gathers statistical data regarding library usage in the evenings. Manages and organizes the collection shelves of the library. This includes books, media, and equipment unique to these collections. Oversees large stack maintenance projects such as shifting, shelf reading, and reorganization. Responsible for securing and alarming the building at the end of the public hours. 

Examples

Oversees the checking in of new books. Informs patrons about fees or fines they may have incurred. Supervises a service area when a professional is not available. Supervises daily routines at circulation reserve desk. Supervises the weeding and daily collection management. Maintains reserve and inter-library loan collections. Performs other duties as assigned.

Some moderate lifting required.


Experience

Library experience is desirable. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated organizational, analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills. Experience with word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Knowledge

Ability to supervise an area of library operations without immediate supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library personnel, faculty, students, and other library patrons. Ability to keep and to supervise the maintenance of complex records and to submit required reports. Ability to plan, assign, and coordinate the work of circulation student workers.

Education

Bachelor's degree preferred. One year of college or research library experience (12 hours of applicable Library Science credit from an ALA accredited library school may be substituted for one year of academic library experience).

Additional Requirements

Must have the ability to be flexible with job responsibilities and exercise sound judgement. Self-directed and self-motivated learner with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a changing environment. Must maintain current professional knowledge through on-going reading, training, and participation in professional organizations.

SCHEDULE:

Fall and Spring semesters, the night manager will work evenings and late hours of the night: Sunday-Thursday 3pm-midnight.

Summer semesters, hours are Sunday-Thursday 1pm-10pm

Intersession, hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.
