- Description
Participates directly in patient care. Provides nursing service to the physically ill in accordance with education and experience. Responsible for the safety, comfort, care and treatment of patients and for the provision of patient care based on standard practices of the profession and special instructions from the professional staff.
- Examples
Assists in the assessment and management of patients. Provides therapeutic treatments and procedures as directed by professional staff. Performs routine nursing care and triage of patients; gives medication, either orally or by injection; observes patient reaction to treatment and/or medication; performs indicated laboratory testing according to written protocols; maintains accurate records on patients; provides educational instruction as indicated. Assumes primary responsibility for clinic activities in the absence of departmental professional nursing staff. May assist support staff in providing coverage for front office and scheduling appointments. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

- Experience
Prefer one or more years nursing experience in a hospital or clinic environment.
- Knowledge
Must have knowledge of current nursing practices and procedures as well as standard medical office operations. Must be extremely accurate in following written and oral directives and have the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Must be proficient in providing nursing services while maintaining established standards of patient care.
- Education
Graduation from high school and an accredited school of vocational nursing.
- Additional Requirements
Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. May be required to have C.P.R. certification. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires current licensure to practice as a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) or board eligible graduate vocational nurse (GVN) in the state of Texas. *This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.
