Title
Financial Aid Processor/Counselor
Description

Performs complex clerical and detailed work which requires a specialized knowledge of financial aid regulations. Interacts directly with students and parents to interpret and explain regulations and policies related to eligibility requirements for federal, state, and local financial aid funding. Performs specialized tasks to processes results of applications for financial aid. Reports to the Director of Financial Aid.

Examples

Interviews and counsels students and parents regarding the financial aid application process and satisfactory progress standards. Processes application results and ensures accuracy of information in line with appropriate federal regulations. Assists in the preparation of state and federal reports. Responsible for data entry to ensure efficient and accurate record keeping. Makes presentations to groups. Performs other related duties as required.

Physical Condition
Experience

Experience in financial advising, general clerical work, counseling experience. Previous experience in developing customer relation skills.

Knowledge

Knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures. Use of computer and 10-key by touch. Knowledge of office procedures. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to handle sensitive situations in a professional and confidential manner.

Education

Completion of two years of college preferred.

Additional Requirements

Requires extensive public contact. Must be willing and able to do public speaking at college night presentations. Must be reliable and thorough. Requires attention to detail and the ability to prepare precise and accurate documents. Must be able to meet strict deadlines and work through stressful situations. Requires a spirit of teamwork. Must observe strict confidentiality.

Standard Requirements

Requires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
