Title
Assistant Director, Athletics for Business/Finance
Description

Works closely with the Director of Athletics, the Executive Associate Director of Athletics and the faculty athletics representative to insure that all MSU sports programs operate within the guidelines established by the NCAA, the Lone Star Conference and Midwestern State University. This position is responsible for monitoring the department's budgets and overseeing all business operations. Actively participates in professional associations, monitors the gender equity plan and represents the university at conferences and national meetings. Reports directly to the Director of Athletics

Examples

Counsel student-athletes; evaluate gender-equity issues; attend university, LSC, and NCAA administrative functions and seminars. Serve as spokesperson for the department concerning women's issues. Participate in annual fund raising; perform public relations duties and activities with faculty, students, contributors, alumni and university administrators. Work with the coaches and administrators in preparation, control, and operation of the MSU athletic program within the budgets as established. Assist in budget preparation, establish priorities, and serve as the contact person for internal and external audits and reports. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Physical Condition

Must be able to perform routine lifting.

Experience

Three or more years experience in athletics. Previous experience in administration, budget operations, or accounting desirable.

Knowledge

Must have thorough knowledge of applicable NCAA rules and regulations. Knowledge of gender equity issues. Public speaking skills extremely helpful. Must have good organizational and administrative skills, scheduling and PR skills.

Education

Master's degree required, preferably in Kinesiology and/or sports administration.

Must be able to effectively communicate and deal with a variety of constituencies, including students, alumni, boosters, the media, and the community at large. Must maintain active membership in appropriate professional organizations. Must be a positive representative for the university. *Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (mod) and requires a criminal background check.
