Title
PC / Network Lead Technician
Description

Under the general supervision of the PC/Network Services Manager the Lead Technician will aid in supervising the work of the PC Network Services technicians and student employees for managed computer labs, track and manage projects as assigned by the PC Network Services Manager, and complete work orders.

Examples

Serves as a technical resource for PC/Network Services Technicians. Aids the PC/Networking Services Manager in the development of new services, maintenance of existing services, and standards development at the enterprise level. Install and troubleshoot Windows XP, and Mac OS X. Coordinate the installation and maintenance of standardized hardware platforms for servers, desktops and office productivity applications. Provide training and instructions to end users. Maintain, install, and upgrade current networking equipment. Maintain and upgrade Active Directory Services. Administer Microsoft Exchange mail system. Performance of other duties as designated by the Management. Demonstrate professionalism and exemplary work ethics in all aspects of performance of duties.

Physical Condition

Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Experience

Technical training with a strong background in microcomputer hardware/software installation and repair. Technical training in and working knowledge of the Novell network operating system and Microsoft Active Directory Services. Experience in the installation/maintenance of Microsoft Windows networking services, twisted-pair network cabling, and fiber optic cabling. PC repair, maintenance, and network integration. Windows Server administration and maintenance. Active network hardware maintenance including switch and router configuration and maintenance. Cable plant maintenance.

Knowledge

Knowledge of microcomputer hardware and software installation and repair. Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP directory functionality and integration with disparate systems. Knowledge of routing and switching hardware configuration and troubleshooting and network devices specific to Enterasys and Cisco product lines.

Education

Prefer college degree. Requires considerable technical training in personal computers/network hardware and software installation and troubleshooting or equivalent experience. Technical training in the installation and maintenance of standards based cable plants and open standards networks.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must demonstrate professionalism and exemplary work ethic in all aspects of performance of duties. Must be highly-organized and be able to effectively supervise a diverse staff of technicians and student assistants. *Regular reliable attendance is required. * Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. *This position is designated as security sensitive (High) and requires a criminal background check.
