- Description
Responsible to the Athletics Director for the management and administration of all phases of the softball program in a manner that upholds the philosophy and objectives of the Department of Athletics. Supervises graduate assistants and student assistants. Responsible for field supervision rentals during and outside of the softball season. Performs other duties as request by the Athletics Director.
- Examples
Supervises student athletes' development and progress in academics and athletics. Organizes and supervises all practice sessions. Works closely with the Athletics Director to develop game schedules; prepare an annual budget; and plan major purchases. Oversees the selection, purchase, fitting, and maintenance of all team equipment according to state the university policies and regulations. Arranges for officials for all games. Makes all team travel arrangements. Monitors the eligibility status of student athletes. Assists with fund-raising and promotional activities. Establishes and monitors a program of team conduct and discipline. Works with the Athletics Director and the Head Athletic Trainer to insure that all games and practices are conducted under safe conditions and that athletic injuries receive prompt medical attention. Develops and maintains a recruiting program designed to attract top quality student-athletes to the University. Insures compliance with all rules and regulations of such conferences and/or national athletic associations of which the university may be a member.
- Physical Condition
- Experience
Five to ten years college coaching experience, preferably as a head coach in a competitive program at a four-year institution, or five to ten years in a competitive junior college or high school program.
- Knowledge
Must have a thorough knowledge of applicable NCAA rules and regulations. Must be knowledgeable in the use of computers for word processing, budgeting, statistics, and recruiting.
- Education
Master's degree preferred, preferably in Kinesiology and/or sports administration.
- Additional Requirements
Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must have previous experience and proven record in coaching college softball programs including recruiting, scouting, fund raising, budget preparation, and scheduling. Should also have effective communication and public relations skills. Must be able to communicate and deal effectively with a variety of constituencies, including students, alumni, boosters, the media, and the community at large. Public speaking skills extremely helpful. Must have good organizational and administrative skills. Must be certified in subjects he/she teaches. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. * Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
