Title
Library Assistant I
Description

Performs specialized work involving the application of standard library techniques and procedures of limited complexity. Employees of this class perform varied tasks in connection with the daily operation of the Library. Work is usually performed under supervision, according to established practices and routines and is subject to review while in process and upon completion.

Examples

Assists in book inventory and collection maintenance on a periodic basis. Regularly assists faculty and students in the use of the Library and class instruction. Monitors online communication channels and answers basic questions of library operations. Assists in the development and execution of library events and public programing. Prepares printed handouts for instruction and general information. Does bibliographic checking and other computerized record keeping as required.

Physical Condition

Minor lifting of library items up to 20 pounds.

Experience

One year of experience in general office and clerical work, including experience with office computer applications.

Knowledge

Working knowledge of simple library routines. Some knowledge of library methods and procedures. Ability to deal tactfully with library patrons and other staff members in routine contact.

Education

High School Graduate or equivalent required. Some College experience preferred.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must be able to type and use a computer efficiently. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
