Associate Director, Admissions

Reports to the Director of Admissions.  Develops, plans, coordinates, and manages all admission and undergraduate new student orientation events sponsored by MSU Texas Admissions, including staffing, security, facilities, equipment, food, maintenance, signage, transportation etc. and coordinates with faculty and other departments on campus to ensure all event requirements are met. Monitors, analyzes and evaluates admission events to ensure that objectives are met and to provide a continual means of improvement and enhancement. Recruits, selects, manages, and supervises student tour guides and orientation leaders. Oversees the daily operation of the MSU Texas Welcome Center including all aspects of the comprehensive daily visit program for prospective students and families, including the once monthly Saturday tour. Assists with other aspects of recruitment such as college fairs and presentations, as needed. Supervises the internal admission counselor responsible for the group visit program. Meets with and provides counseling on the admissions process to prospective students and parents, including walk-ins, as necessary.  Provides oversight of the Admissions Office in the absence of the Director and Senior Associate Director. Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, parents, faculty, co-workers, and managers. Acts as a liaison with the Webmaster staff to maintain the campus visit webpage.


Aid the director in staff management. Assist with the development of recruiting materials. Assist the formation of recruiting plan/schedule following the TACRAO & Oklahoma recruiting schedules. Make presentations to prospective students, families, and groups. Conduct individual visits/tours. Provide general admissions counseling. Assist colleges/departments with program specific recruiting as needed. Serve as the Texas Common Application MSU site administrator. Serve as an Admissions liaison between MSU Information Systems. Coordinate the admissions aspect of the high school concurrent enrollment program. Maintain files of statistical/historical data regarding events, activities, and recruiting demographics. Assist with the adaptation and implementation of new technology. Serve on various university committees as needed.

Physical Condition

Ability to travel for short periods of time.  Ability to lift a minimum of twenty pounds.


Minimum of three years progressive experience planning events, preferably in a college environment.  Experience in enrollment management, recruitment, or admissions.  Experience working with databases, web configuration, demographics, and admissions counseling.


Thorough understanding of admission policies, university policies, regulations, and degree requirements.  Must be knowledgeable in the use of computers and commonly used office software programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Background in Banner software preferred.  Strong written and oral communication skills, required.


Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree or some graduate work, preferred.

Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of interaction involving the public and university faculty/administration. Must make a strong positive representation of MSU to achieve stated enrollment goals.  Must be willing to serve on various university committees, as needed. Must be adaptable, flexible, and cooperative. Occasional evening and weekend programming required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
