Librarian, Special Collections

In coordination with University Librarian and Associate University Librarian establishes fund accounts for each academic department on campus. In coordination with departmental liaisons, processes and monitors orders for new materials being added to the library collection. Corresponds with suppliers regarding status of orders and payments. Responsible for weeding the collection to keep it physically sound and up-to-date. Responsible for the processing of gifts and donations made to the library. In coordination with library specialist from Information Systems Department monitors activities and problems related to the Endeavor online library management system. Works non-traditional hours on the Reference Desk. Participates in professional activities.


Establishes fund accounts each fiscal year. Creates weekly book orders through the online system. Works with technical services staff to solve a variety of ordering and claiming problems. In coordination with various departments in the library, physically withdraws items from shelves and electronically from computer database. Works with technical staff in processing gifts and donations. Chairs biweekly meetings to serve as communication link for online procedures and problems, as well as informing library staff of changes in online system brought about by new software releases. Communicates with the software vendor regarding problems and concerns. Serves as a research partner for the College of Health Sciences and Human Services.

Physical Condition

Some moderate lifting required.


Some academic library experience desirable. Experience with automated library management systems. Experience with vendor correspondence and library accounting procedures.


Must be computer literate, possess good oral/written communication skills, and have the ability to work with a diverse group. Capable of decision making, especially involving funds and material selection. Supervisory skills helpful.


A graduate degree in Library/Information Services from an ALA accredited program. A graduate degree in the humanities or social sciences highly desirable. Course work in accounting procedures highly desirable.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Touch typing, basic computer keyboarding, familiarity with commercial software (currently Microsoft Works for Workgroups), moving book trucks around the library, Xeroxing and distributing multiple copies, verbally training and clarifying written manual instructions. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
