Scholarships are available to music majors and minors by audition and are renewable. Students of all majors who participate in marching band, basketball band, or choir are eligible for additional scholarships.

MSU Texas Music Department Audition Day Information

Location: At least 30 minutes before your scheduled audition time, please check-in at the Music Department Office located in room C117 of the Fain Fine Arts Building. From there, we will show you where your audition will be and guide you to a place where you can warm up.

Parking: Parking is free in lot 6 on the campus parking map. To get to the Fain Fine Arts building, parking is free, and lot 3 is the closest to the C wing of the Fain Fine Arts Building.You may also park in lot 6, walk across the street through the Mass Communication D wing of the Fain Fine Arts Building, and reach C117 from there.

What to Bring: For your audition, please bring two copies of the music that you will be performing. Semi-formal attire is appropriate.

What Will be Provided: We will provide a grand piano (Steinway or Yamaha) for each audition as well as an accompanist for vocal auditions only. Percussionists will be provided with a Majestic concert snare drum, an Adams 5.5 octave marimba, 5 Adams timpani (32", 29", 26", 23", 20") and a Pearl 4-piece drum set. If you have any other equipment needs, please do not hesitate to reach out.

What to Expect in the Audition: Our goal for your audition is to gain an understanding of how you fit into our music program here at Midwestern State University. We are not here to criticize your musical abilities or exclude you. We want anyone who desires to participate in any musical opportunities at MSU Texas to be excited to! Plan for a relaxed environment where you show us your musical abilities, and expect a conversation about your desires and goals for your musical studies and future career.

Things to Do Before or After Your Audition: The university offers at tour at 2 p.m. This tour will allow you to explore and ask questions about any of the wonderful opportunities that we have for students at MSU Texas. Parents and other family members are welcome to join us for the tour and will be able to speak with our Department of Music faculty members throughout the day.
