Paying Tuition with Outside Sources

Third-party tuition payments can come from an outside source such as the Texas Tomorrow Fund, the military, or an employer. We will walk you through the process of authorizing third-party payments if applicable to you as a student.

Setting Up Third-Party Payments

To allow the MSU Texas Business Office and a third party to communicate regarding your student account, you will need to fill out the Information Release Form.

Designating Authorized Users

In keeping with federal guidelines, no one but you will have access to information about your student account unless a release of information is on file. If you would like, you can choose to designate an authorized user (such as a parent or guardian) to make a tuition payment on your behalf and access select billing information. To set this up, log in to your myMSUTexas portal, select the Touchnet link, and select the Authorized User tab.

Tuition Exemptions & Waivers

Tuition exemptions and waivers are available on the basis of a student's life circumstances. See below for more detailed information on various exemptions and waivers.

Independent Eligibility

NATO Member

A non-immigrant alien residing in Texas in accordance with certain NATO agreements receives in-state tuition regardless of the length of time they have lived in Texas. Please contact Admissions if this applies to you.

Military in Texas

An active officer, enlisted person, selectee, or draftee of the U.S. Armed Forces living in Texas on assignment receives in-state tuition regardless of the length of time they have lived in Texas.

Highest Ranking High School Scholar

A student who graduated at the top of their class in high school will receive a full tuition waiver for two semesters.

Disabled Peace Officer

A student may have tuition waived if permanently disabled as a result of an injury suffered during the performance of a duty as a peace officer of this state or a political subdivision of this state.

Good Neighbor

This is a tuition waiver for up to 235 students native-born in other countries in the American hemisphere.

Competitive
Scholarship

A student coming from out of state who has a competitive scholarship in excess of $1,000 will receive the Texas Resident Rate — Out-of-District Tuition Rate. Please Contact Admissions if this applies to you.

Eligibility Based on Dependency

Child of Disabled Firefighter/Peace Officer

Children who meet age requirements and are dependents of firefighters and law enforcement officers injured or killed in the line of duty receive 100% exemption of tuition.

Child of Nurse Educator

Children under the age of 25 who are dependents of a nurse educator in Texas higher education receive 100% exemption of tuition.

Child of Nurse Overseeing Clinicals

Children under the age of 25 who are dependents of a nurse overseeing clinicals in Texas higher education receive a $500 exemption of tuition.

NATO Family Members

Military Dependent in Texas

Dependent of Deceased Public Servants

Children and surviving spouses of certain deceased firefighters, peace officers, and other public servants receive exemption of tuition, free textbooks, and housing assistance.

It is important to check your account regularly so you can stay up to date on billing information and payment statuses, as well as manage authorized users.

Military Tuition Assistance

Once you have been admitted to MSU Texas as a service member or veteran, you will simply complete the paperwork provided by your branch of service to secure your tuition assistance.
