Streamlining the Refund Process

We are committed to processing refunds in a timely and accurate manner so you may effectively manage your finances as a student. It is easy to check your account status and track your refunds by creating an E-Refund profile.

Financial Aid Refunds

If you have received financial aid, including grants, loans, and scholarships, your award will be directly applied to your student account. In alignment with our refund policy, any excess funds remaining after your student account is paid will be issued in the form of a refund within 7 to 10 days.
A stack of one hundred dollar bills is topped off with a paperclip holding a piece of paper with a graduation cap drawn on it to represent a student's refund.

You may check your account summary to determine if your financial aid award has posted to your MSU Texas account and if a refund check has been issued as well as its effective date. To check your account status, log in to your myMSUTexas student portal, select the Touchnet link, and navigate to the Account Summary tab.

Check Your Account

Setting up an E-Refund profile means your refunds will be sent to you faster and more securely through direct deposit. Follow these steps to set up your E-Refund profile:

  • Log in to your myMSUTexas student portal
  • Select the Touchnet link
  • Select "Refunds"
  • Enroll in two-step verification
  • Select "Set Up Account" and enter your banking information
  • Agree to the terms and conditions

You will receive an email confirmation once your E-Refund is processed.
Set up an E-Refund Profile

If you do not sign up for E-Refunds, the MSU Texas Business Office will mail a refund check to your current mailing address. Please make sure that all addresses are kept up to date to prevent any delay in receiving your refund check.

To ensure that refund checks are processed and mailed in the most efficient and timely manner possible, please allow three to five business days before contacting the Business Office regarding the status of a refund.

Access Your Account in the Student Portal

You can set up your E-Refund profile, check your refund status, and manage your student financial account all within your myMSUTexas student portal. Be sure to log in regularly so you can stay on top of any changes to your account.

Refunds for Withdrawn & Dropped Classes

The tuition refund percentage you will receive is based on whether you are withdrawing from the university (canceling all classes for the semester) or dropping a class (while remaining enrolled in other classes). Visit the link below for refund percentages in each instance.

Refund FAQs

What is a financial aid refund?

Once your student account is paid, any excess financial award will be paid to you in the form of a refund, either through direct deposit or by check. To receive your refund via direct deposit, set up an E-Refunds profile: Log in to your myMSUTexas student portal, select the Touchnet link, select "Refunds," then "Set Up Your Account," and enter your banking information.

What is the difference between a withdrawal refund and a dropped course refund?

A withdrawal refund is issued when a student withdraws from the university and all class enrollments are canceled. A dropped course refund is issued when a student drops a class but is still enrolled in other classes at the university. See the tables above for more information on withdrawal and dropped course deadlines and refund percentages.

How do I check the status of my refund?

Refunds will be issued in the form of a direct deposit or check (depending on whether your E-Refund profile is set up) within 7 to 10 days. To check your refund status, log in to your myMSUTexas student portal, select the Touchnet link, and navigate to the Account Summary tab.
