Mechanical engineering is considered to be the broadest branch of engineering, providing a wide choice of careers and allowing movement into a variety of engineering and non-engineering areas. Mechanical Engineering students at MSU receive a broad education which allows them to pursue successful careers along diverse paths and to find employment in a broad range of industries, including automotive, space, transportation, computer, construction, heating and cooling, and power generation.

Industrial Technology follows the guidelines of ATMAE (Association of Technology Management and Applied Engineering). It is designed to prepare graduates to operate and maintain complex industrial systems. Students majoring in Industrial Technology will develop diverse skills, including experience with safety, supply chain, facilities design, energy, construction, production, and project planning.
