Description

Serves as the advisor to the University Programming Board (UPB), and assists in the provision of social, recreational, cultural, and educational programming opportunities to foster student engagement and cultivate peer connections between students, the university community, and beyond. Coordinates and/or assists with the planning and implementation of major student events on campus. Responsible for the student activities calendar and monitoring of student programs associated with activities provided through the Office of Student Leadership and University Programming Board. Reports to the Director of Student Leadership and Involvement.

 
Examples

Creates and distributes the monthly student activities calendar. Prepares printed and online promotional materials for campus events. Records student program attendance and assesses student satisfaction, outcomes, and learning associated with activities provided through the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement and University Programming Board. Assists and advises student leaders in all aspects of successful program planning, promotion, budgeting, contract negotiation, use of facilities/equipment, implementation, and evaluation. Assists in the implementation of annual university Family Day, Homecoming, and Mustangs Roundup. Coordinates major student events including Welcome Week and Finals Frenzy. Organizes ongoing late night/weekend and low/no budget student activities. Monitors and tracks student involvement and participation in campus events. Develops, coordinates, promotes, and evaluates assigned events and activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 
Physical Condition

Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over thirty pounds. Sufficient strength and stamina to perform a variety of manual tasks associated with duties.

Experience

One or more years experience in campus activities, student organization advisement, and/or event planning.

 
Knowledge

Requires knowledge of student development, program planning, leadership skills, risk management, advising, and counseling. Knowledge related to intercultural competency and the ability to promote cross-cultural interaction. Basic knowledge of diversity issues and programming needs for minority and international students and the ability to promote involvement in campus programming and activities for all students. Proficiency in the use of computers and commonly used Microsoft office software programs. Knowledge of web-based applications and social networking.

 

Must exhibit knowledge of student development theory, student organizations, and successful program planning. Must possess skills in the areas of leadership, organization, risk management, advising, and counseling. Requires the ability to work well with diverse student groups and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty and staff. Must have an understanding and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and economic diversity of students and the community.

 
Education

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in higher education, student personnel administration, counseling, or related field preferred.

 
Additional Requirements

Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be creative, dependable, organized, detail-oriented, enthusiastic, and demonstrate the ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff. *Must be willing to work nights and weekends and flexible/extended hours with little supervision. *This position is designated as security sensitive and requires a criminal background check.
