Description

Reporting to the Director of the Student Success Center, a Success Coach leads intentional, one-on-one conversations with students to help them achieve academic success. Develops academic plans unique to students' needs and schedules. Helps develop resource materials and collaborates across campus.  

 
Examples

Holds one-on-one conferences with students, helping them envision academic success, set realistic goals, understand their learning styles, discover campus resources, and create an academic plan that addresses each student's individualized needs to be academically successful. Makes suggestions and discusses strategies for student success. Holds students accountable for their goals and academic plans. Session topics include, but are not limited to, goal-setting, time and task management, organization, learning styles, note-taking and test-taking, studying, reading, school-life balance, and financial literacy. 

 
Physical Condition

Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over thirty pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, to climb stairs, stoop, bend, and reach overhead. Sufficient strength, stamina, and mobility to perform manual tasks associated with programming responsibilities.

Experience

Preferred experience serving as a tutor or mentor, or in a student-facing role.

 
Knowledge

Knowledge of college success strategies. Must have strong communication skills as well as best practices in one-to-one student discussions and building a strong rapport with students. Ability to follow generally accepted office practices and procedures and keep organized notes regarding each session, which is completed digitally in EAB/Navigate—proficiency in the use of computers and software programs, including Word and PowerPoint.

 
Education

Bachelor’s degree required.

Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; be able to work effectively with a wide range of students, and be able to work collaboratively with colleagues to set, plan, and achieve ambitious goals.

Requires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Personal cell phone usage may be required to complete position duties, including multi-function authentication requirements. Regular reliable attendance is required.
