The Head Cheer Coach and Spirit Coordinator leads the cheerleading program and the Spirit Stangs, a student organization promoting spirit and engagement within the student body. This position fosters a successful cheerleading program by recruiting, training, and developing student-athletes, including practice sessions, team travel, performances, and community outreach. Similarly, this position recruits and engages students for the Spirit Stangs program, including game day activities, special spirit functions, and community outreach. The Head Cheer Coach and Spirit Coordinator report to the Director of Student Leadership and Involvement.
- Examples

Lead, train, and develop a competitive college cheerleading team.Plan practice sessions focusing on physical conditioning, stunts, tumbling, choreography, and performance skills. Develop training schedules, competition preparation, and game-day performance. Oversee the recruitment process for new cheerleaders, including tryouts, evaluations, and assessments of skills and fit for the program. Coordinate travel, logistics, and aspects related to competitions, game performances, and community events. Organize and supervise summer camps and clinics. Manage the cheerleading program's budget, covering all necessary equipment, uniforms, and travel expenses. Monitor team academic performance. Coordinate fundraising events, clinics, and programs to enhance the program’s success. Serve as the advisor for the Spirit Stangs, the student organization group. Oversee the recruitment of additional students and growth of the Spirit Stangs organization. Coordinate game and community activities for the Spirit Stangs. Coordinate and serve as the spirit liaison for the university for athletic, campus, and community events. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Physical Condition

Requires demonstrating cheerleading stunts, tumbling, and other physical exercises. Ability to lift and spot cheerleaders during practice and performances.
- Experience
-
Coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level. Knowledge of cheerleading techniques, including stunts, tumbling, dance, and safety protocols.
- Knowledge
-
Certified cheerleading coach. Certified CPR, First Aid.
- Education

Bachelor’s degree.

Must be able to work flexible hours, including events, weekends, and travel with the team and/or student organization.
