Responsibilities

The Department of English, Humanities, and Philosophy at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX seeks applicants for an Assistant or Associate Professor, English - Technical or Professional Communication. We are looking for candidates who will teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in workplace writing (e.g., technical, professional, business, and healthcare communication).

In addition to a B.A. in English, our program offers an online M.A./M.S. in English and two graduate certificates, one of which is in English professional studies. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position with a standard load of 4/4 with optional summer teaching. Both onsite and online teaching are expected. In addition to teaching duties, the successful candidate will engage in scholarly activities and service to the department, college, and university. 

Requirements

Ph.D. in Technical or Professional Communication or related field in writing studies. ABD candidates considered if the degree will be conferred prior to assignment start date. Experience teaching technical, professional, and/or business communication, and a research emphasis in workplace communications. Demonstrated success in the writing classroom and ability to teach writing-intensive courses that complement or strengthen our undergraduate and online graduate programs.

Requires the ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Personal cell phone usage may be required to complete position duties, including multi-function authentication requirements. Regular reliable attendance is required.

This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check. Position is designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX. May serve as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
