Description

The Director for the Center for STEM Excellence is primarily responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the Center by implementing the core initiatives as well as supporting the expansion of center-related efforts. This position works closely with and reports directly to the Dean of the McCoy College of Science, Mathematics, and Engineering. 

 
Examples

The Director will play a critical role in the oversight of activities associated with:

·        Implementing student-centered peer-to-peer mentorship and bridge programs to improve student success in first-year STEM courses.

·        Identifying programming, trainings, and workshops focused on student success and faculty development related to teaching and learning.

·        Organizing and overseeing community outreach activities such as STEM nights and Visiting Wizards to develop and promote community engagement and science education.

·        Establishing partnerships with area school districts on the regional science fair and supporting the pipeline of STEM-interested students in grades 6-12 while enhancing teacher engagement in student-led STEM projects.

·        Working with MCOSME student organizations to support outreach efforts to area K-12 schools.

·        Developing and coordinating STEM engagement opportunities between MCOSME faculty and science teachers in area school districts, such as summer STEM workshops for teachers.

·        Planning and organizing an annual STEM Careers Panel, including working with the MCOSME departments/schools to identify panelists for their disciplines, corresponding with panelists, creating promotional materials, and coordinating receptions.

·        Working in coordination with the MCOSME Dean and departments/schools Chairs to brainstorm and design the structure and framework for new Center activities.

·        Collaborating with the MCOSME recruiter to coordinate and attend on-campus recruiting events related to STEM.

·        Working in collaboration with the MCOSME Dean and the Office of Sponsored Programs to secure other sources of revenue/funding by preparing grant proposals and cultivating potential collaborative partnerships for the long-term sustainability and expansion of the Center’s activities.

·        Serving as the primary point of contact for faculty, staff, students, alumni, visitors, and external constituents interested in learning more about the Center for STEM Excellence.

·        Serving as the center’s industry liaison to identify and support educational and research opportunities between MCOSME faculty and industry partners.

·        Responding to requests from internal offices/departments such as the Office of the President, Office of the Provost, or the Office of Marketing and Public Information.

·        Supervising student employees, such as peer mentors, SI leaders, and researchers

·        Working with the MCOSME Dean to determine and manage the center’s budget including the tracking of all purchases throughout the year and preparing an end of the year expenditure report.

·        Working with the Webmaster to monitor and update the Center for STEM Excellence web page.

·        Teach up to 6 credit hours per semester in area of expertise.

Demonstrated experience with implementing best practices to promote student success in STEM fields, partnership development, and community outreach activities. Experience managing webpages and social media.

 
Knowledge


This position requires strong communication, and time management skills and a professional demeanor with the ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders with diplomacy and tact. Independent judgment is necessary to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload with attention to detail. 

 
Education

Master's Degree in a STEM field.
