- Description
Perform all duties necessary for the maintenance and management of campus locks and doors. Maintains hardware, manages the distribution of keys, and oversees specifications to insure campus standards are maintained. Reports to the Director of Construction Services.
- Examples
Primary duty is to maintain campus door security to include keying cores, installing locks, cutting and stamping keys, issuing keys, maintaining computer-based and manual records of key distributions, and repairing door hardware of all types (locks, cylinders, handles, hinges, closers, etc.). Light carpentry work is required for making minor door repairs. Position must interact well with manufacturers, suppliers and campus departments to coordinate campus keying requirements for existing and new buildings. The position must also train others, such as student workers or relief workers, to perform locksmith duties.
- Physical Condition
Keen eyesight and good hand dexterity needed for re-keying and repair of locks. Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over 50 pounds. Person must be able to do tedious work of bit coding and repair of locks as well as have the physical ability to climb a ladder, reach, twist, push, and pull as necessary to work on door closures and hardware.
- Experience
Should have a minimum of five year experience in locksmithing and hardware repair. Training and record keeping skills are required.
- Knowledge
Extensive knowledge of Corbin/Russwin keying systems and locks, unit locks, master ring cylinders, interchangeable cores; knowledge of other commercial hardware including panic devices and closers is required. Ability to understand and work from manufacturer bitting instructions and other hardware manufacturer instructions is a requirement. Skill in disassembly and assembly of locks and hardware and in the use of locksmithing tools. Cutting keys and using cutters, grinders, and buffers in a safe and efficient manner. Knowledge of electronic access systems preferred
- Education
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Proficiency in reading and writing is required.
- Additional Requirements
Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Employment physical exam is required. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. * Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
