Title
Electrical Superintendent
Description

Skilled electrical and supervisory work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Work involves supervising the work of Electricians I and II, and participating in the work. Work requires climbing, heavy lifting, and crawling through tunnels and attics. Some of the work is performed outdoors and there is danger from high voltage. Reports to the Associate Vice President, Facilities Services.

Examples

Supervises electricians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Requisitions necessary supplies and equipment to ensure that the normal flow of work is not interrupted. Furnishes cost estimates on jobs as requested. Maintains record of material and labor expended on jobs for cost accounting purposes. Functions as electrician in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical service lines and equipment.

Physical Condition

Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Requires employment physical exam.

Experience

Six years of experience as a State of Texas Licensed Electrician, including supervisory experience.

Knowledge

Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code. Thorough knowledge of electrical systems, materials, tools, practices of the electrical trade, and safety precautions. Ability to plan, assign, and supervise work of subordinates. Skill in the use and care of tools, instruments, and equipment used in the electrical trade. Ability to work with sketches and blueprints as well as make material takeoff from prints.

Education

Graduation from high school.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Three to five years experience as an electrician. Must be able to operate power tools and hand tools, climb ladders, drive all types of vehicles, and have a valid driver's license. Must be able to read blue prints, schematics and follow directions. Working in high locations and lifting moderate to heavy equipment and materialsis required. *Regular reliable attendance is required. * Must be available some nights and weekends. Must periodically serve on a standby or on-call basis. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
