- Description
Skilled journeyman level carpentry work involving both rough and finish carpentry work and occasional painting. Work is performed under the supervision of the Carpenter Foreperson.
- Examples
Work primarily involves the repair and modification of buildings and building contents. Tasks include framing, sheet rocking, trim work, door repairs / replacements, window replacements, flooring repairs, roof repairs, basic cabinetry work, prep & painting and numerous general handyman repairs. Tools used include band saws, chop saws, drills, sanders, planers, routers and other tools of the trade. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and includes climbing ladders, working on roofs and scaffolds, and occasional stooping and heavy lifting.
- Physical Condition
Moderate to heavy physical work with occasional lifting of heavy objects. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, work at heights on ladders, scaffolds and roofs, operate all applicable equipment, work outdoors in all types of weather, and drive vehicles.
- Experience
Five years experience as a carpenter in general construction, repair, remodeling and maintenance of buildings, Experience with work in both rough and finish carpentry and interaction with customers to define scope of work and develop solutions.
- Knowledge
Knowledgeable in practices / techniques of both rough and finish carpentry; safe operating procedures for the tools of the trade; construction materials and standard terminology; and hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to work from sketches or blueprints and understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Education
Graduation from high school or vocational school.
- Additional Requirements
Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Demonstrated self-motivated work ethic and good customer service habits. Must be experienced in office, commercial and residential construction/renovation. Must be able to remove resilient floor covering materials and asbestos in accordance with code. MSU will provide formal training, if required.*Regular reliable punctual attendance is required. *Requires employment physical exam. *A valid Texas driver's license is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Low) and requires a criminal background check.
