Title
Assistant to the University Librarian
Description

Performs executive secretarial and administrative tasks for the University Librarian and Moffett Library. Handles administrative details such as receiving and handling inquiries and requests related to the library and its programs. Responsible for scheduling the library spaces for use by MSU Texas students, faculty, and staff.  

Examples

Creates and monitors EPAFs. Generates and tracks all facility work orders for Moffett Library. Compiles and manages travel requests, travel vouchers and Direct Payment Vouchers for library staff. Manages library equipment inventory. Processes library p-card envelopes. Schedules and supervises all library reservations and events, including library instruction sessions with faculty. Plans, coordinates and executes library events. Prepares monthly financial statements for the library. Handles routine and confidential correspondence. Responds to requests for information from students, faculty, staff, and the public. Acts as a liaison between Moffett Library and Tutoring and Academic Support Programs. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operation of Moffett Library. Work is performed independently and under general supervision.

Experience

Library experience is desirable. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated organizational, analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills. Experience with word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Knowledge

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and the use of office machines, personal computers, and various office equipment. Knowledge of various software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Education

Bachelor's degree preferred. One year of college or research library experience (12 hours of applicable Library Science credit from an ALA accredited library school may be substituted for one year of academic library experience).

Self-directed and self-motivated learner with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a changing environment. Must maintain current professional knowledge through on-going reading, training, and participation in professional organizations.
