Data Analyst
Description

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) is responsible for managing and disseminating certified institutional data to the campus community and other university constituents. The Data Analyst reports to the Director and is responsible for receiving requests, developing and processing reports, and delivering certified institutional data to the campus community through user-friendly methods.

 

The Data Analyst is responsible for various federal, state, and institutional reporting requirements and provides support to the Director and other IE personnel in ensuring the functions of the office are met in a timely and accurate manner. The Data Analyst commands an understanding, knowledge, and skills to work with IT in matters related to the Banner SIMS and the data warehouse utilized by IE.

Examples

Manages the online data request portal, including logging requests, determining estimated task completion date, and acknowledging the request. Utilizes report development software, processes request for certified data and reports; when functional, incorporates the use of dashboards for more user interaction. Manages an online, secure portal of existing Power BI reports. Manages/assists as needed with institutional completion of mandated reporting to the US Department of Education (IPEDS, FISAP), Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (Accountability System, Financial Aid Data Base, Legislative Budget Board, Legislative Appropriations Request), national surveys (US News and World Report). Works with the Director to meet with campus leaders as needed to discuss request/report findings to inform and discuss sources of data, potential implications, and additional request/report needs. Works with campus leaders to determine what IE-generated reports are needed on a specified timetable, such as enrollment comparison and SCHs reports. Works with the registrar’s office as needed to develop checking methods for CBM processing to assist in coding errors prior to submission. Works with IT to ensure certified Banner data is loaded into the IE Data Warehouse in a timely manner. As requested, provides support to the Director for the purposes of accreditation for the institution (SACSCOC) and various college agencies.

Physical Condition

This position requires the ability to complete a 40hr M-F work week, interface with computers throughout the day, attend regular meetings, and communicate effectively with faculty and staff.

Experience

At least two years of experience. · Experience with Microsoft Office Suites applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access. Experience in Microsoft Power BI, SQL, or Python preferred.

Experience with IBM SPSS or a related statistical software such as R, SAS, etc. Experience in preparing and presenting accurate, contextual, and user-friendly data and reports.

Knowledge

A base level understanding of qualitative and quantitative methodology required. An understanding of higher education databases, definitions, acronyms, and how to calculate basic higher education metrics (for example student-to-faculty ratio, enrollment yields, retention rates) preferred.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in an analytics or computer related discipline; Master’s degree in computer related discipline and statistical analysis preferred.

Must have the ability to interact professionally and effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators. Must have good oral and written communication skills and be comfortable communicating and presenting material. Must have organizational skills and the ability to work independently on assigned and self-initiated projects/tasks.
