Title
Purchasing Assistant
Description

Performs responsible clerical and specialized duties required to assist in procuring raw materials, equipment, supplies, and services for the university. Plans, coordinates, and controls daily clerical operations of the office. Work is performed with considerable independence and offers wide latitude for exercise of initiative and independent judgment, within the framework of State purchasing rules and regulations and university policies and procedures. Performs related work as assigned.

Examples

Receives purchasing requisitions and works out any related problems, does follow-ups on orders to expedite receipt as needed, expedites receiving reports and purchase vouchers submission to keep vender accounts current, encumbers expenditures to insure that budgets are not exceeded

Physical Condition
Experience

Three or more years of progressively more responsible purchasing experience, preferably within a State of Texas college or university office(s).

Knowledge

Ability to organize detail work. Reasonable typing speed and use of adding machine/ calculator by touch. Requires in depth knowledge of State of Texas purchasing laws, rules and regulations as well as Midwestern State University purchasing procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with university and outside the university contacts. 

Education

Graduation from high school. Bachelor's degree preferred.
