- Executive Director, Student Wellness
- Description
The Executive Director for Student Wellness leads ongoing university and division efforts to enhance comprehensive student wellness initiatives, including mental, physical, and other well-being programs.
Areas reporting to the Executive Director include the Counseling Center, Disability Support Services, and Vinson Health Center. These departments are responsible for providing various health and wellness programs and services for students enrolled at MSU Texas.
In addition, the Executive Director is responsible for the management of the Bruce and Graciela Redwine Student Wellness Center and Recreational Sports program at MSU Texas, which offer a comprehensive campus recreation program through sports, fitness, and physical activities. The position also serves as the university’s Coordinator for Summer Camp Programs. The Executive Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students.

· Desi· Designs and implements holistic wellness programs appropriate for a diverse university student population.
· Coordinates student wellness efforts and provides administrative leadership and support to the Counseling Center, Disability Support Services, and the Vinson Health Center.
· Emphasizes health and wellness programs with focuses on prevention, skill and knowledge development, resilience and self-management, and resource awareness.
· Develops and implements university wellness policies, maintains records, prepares reports, and manages the Wellness Center, Recreational Sports, and Summer Camps budgets.
· Assesses the effectiveness of services and programs provided to support student wellness.
· Promotes student participation in Wellness Center and Recreational Sports activities.
· Coordinates wellness seminars and CPR/AED classes for members of the campus community.
· Responsible for hiring and training Wellness Center professional, paraprofessional, fitness instructors, and student staff.
· Responsible for monitoring and maintaining fitness equipment for the Wellness Center and campus AED program.
· Responsible for the maintenance of the Wellness Center aquatics area, including the coordination of appropriate water safety classes and lifeguard supervision.
· Oversees Wellness Center memberships and promotes a safe and healthy atmosphere for Wellness Center participants.
· Advances philosophies of cultural diversity while actively promoting inclusion in programming, student engagement, and staffing.
· Contributes to the development, advancement, and implementation of university and division strategic priorities.
· Communicates and collaborates with local community organizations for purposes to advance student wellness.
· Chairs the university’s Employee Health and Fitness Committee.
· Serves on university committees and task forces.
· Coordinates contractual, scheduling, logistical, and compliance arrangements for university and non-university-sponsored summer camp programs.
· Assists with the implementation and oversight of the university's Youth Protection Program.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Physical Condition
Must be able to lift a minimum of fifty pounds. Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over fifty pounds. Ability to stand for long periods of time, to climb stairs, stoop, bend, and reach overhead. Sufficient strength, stamina, and mobility to perform a variety of manual tasks associated with duties. Must have the ability to demonstrate the proper use of fitness equipment, lifeguarding techniques, exercise, and sports equipment.
- Experience
A minimum of three years of professional experience effectively administering a comprehensive wellness, recreation, sport, fitness, or health program applicable to a university setting is required. Must possess a record of innovative leadership in managing people, programs, activities, services, and budgets. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in fostering various forms of wellness to build a positive community and enhance the development and health of diverse individuals.
- Knowledge
Must be knowledgeable in various fitness, health, mental health, wellness, and sports activities. Must understand the concepts of health and wellness and work with other health and wellness-related departments and organizations on campus and in the community. Must possess strong management, organization, and administrative skills. Must possess exceptional written and oral communication, presentation, and facilitiation skills. Must know standard business practices, computer software programs. Must have an understanding and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic and economic diversity of students and the community. Must be knowledgeable of student and health-related privacy considerations (e.g. FERPA, HIPAA). Familiarity or involvement with related professional associations, such as the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), American College Health Associationn (ACHA), and American College Couneling Association (ACCA), is preferred.
- Education
Master's degree required, with preference towards a field related to health, wellness, counseling, student development, or higher education. Distinction as a certified personal trainer, group fitness instructor or trainer, licensed medical provider, and other similar credentials is preferred. Certification in CPR/AED is preferred, ideally as a trainer.
