Title
Director, Donor Relations and Stewardship
Description

The Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship is responsible for developing, implementing, and continually improving a comprehensive stewardship program focused on communications, recognition, naming opportunities, endowment reporting and compliance, scholarship stewardship, and custom major donor stewardship. Reports to the Vice President of Advancement and oversees the Office of Advancement Services. 

Examples

Serve as an advisor to university leadership, faculty and staff to help support, enhance and coordinate their stewardship efforts. Support the Office of Advancement through the management, planning and direction of stewardship communications and donor relations programs. Develop, implement, and continually improve a comprehensive stewardship program focused on communications, recognition, naming opportunities, endowment reporting and compliance, scholarship stewardship, and custom major donor stewardship. Serve as the main point of contact for creating gift agreements, annual scholarship and endowment reports and developing strategic engagement to promote donor retention. Oversee gift agreements for new gifts to the university to insure that the university can honor donor intent. Oversee donor recognition and stewardship activity focused on principal and major gift level donors, planned giving and endowment giving, including but not limited to annual reporting and select donor recognition programs. Serve as contact person for donors seeking information on giving. Work with Financial Aid regarding scholarship management, support stewardship for annual scholarships and endowed scholarship funds. Collaborate with Advancement Services on setting strategies for growth and improvement with reporting tools and system functionality as well as utilizing additional tools and capabilities.

Physical Condition

Regular computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor use. Repetitive arm, hand, finger motions. Typical work environment includes working at a desk for long periods of time.

Experience

Requires experience in fundraising and/or an understanding of the role of stewardship in philanthropy. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment preferred. Experience and success in setting timelines and meeting deadlines

Knowledge

Outstanding written and oral communication skills required. Exceptional attention to detail and ability to develop and follow processes for ensuring accuracy in work product. Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize work to maximize productivity, and respond effectively to change.

Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals, including donors, development officers, deans, staff, and faculty.

Must have a good knowledge of standard office practices, personnel management, and budgeting. Proficient in the use of personal computers and standard office software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Knowledge of Raiser's Edge software strongly desired.

Education

Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree preferred.

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must be able to complete detailed work with a minimum of errors; have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally. Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance. Personal cell phone usage may be required to complete position duties, including multi-function authentication requirements. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
