Title
Exhibition Preparator/Technical Assistant
Description

Assists in the coordination and installation of exhibitions and related programs of the University Art Gallery. Assists in facility maintenance and repair for departmental studio areas. Reports to the department chair and works under the supervision of gallery director.

Examples

Prepare galleries for installation of exhibitions; assist in the packing and unpacking of artwork and related items that are received into the facility; assist in the organization and maintenance of all gallery related tools and supplies; assist in the installation of artwork and related items for exhibitions; assist in the preparation of opening receptions and special events. Utilize a variety of computer software to produce documents which may include or incorporate text, tables, and graphics - such as gallery labels or wall text for exhibitions; assist in the handling and transportation of art work.. Coordinate custodial and building maintenance for departmental events, activities and day to day use. Assist in facility maintenance and repair for departmental areas. Develop safety procedures and first aid kit supplies. Perform related duties as required in faculty studios.

Physical Condition

Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, and bend. Requires ability to climb a ladder and operate a mechanical lift. Requires occasional lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 pounds.

Experience

Previous experience in exhibition management and preparation preferred.

Knowledge

Must be knowledgeable in maintenance and repair of equipment used by the Department of Art; knowledge of manual power tools, wood construction, framing and matting. Must be skilled in the areas of exhibition installation, display fabrication, exhibition packaging and transportation methods.

Education

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Fine Arts, with related work experience. Master of Fine Arts preferred.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Requires good communication skills and the ability to work well with others and independently in the absence of specific instructions. Must be willing to work occasional nights and weekends. Requires occasional travel and the ability to operate a standard van or truck. Must have the ability to supervise and delegate to student assistants. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *Requires a post-offer employment physical exam and a *valid Texas driver's license. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Low) and requires a criminal background check.
