Title
Library Circulation Manager - Day
Description

The Circulation Manager oversees the process of checking materials in and out of the library, supervises student workers, and opens the building at the start of day. Utilizes library circulation software to locate materials for patrons, manage inventory, handle fines and patron lists. Understands library holdings and essential patron services. The Circulation Manager serves as the first point of contact and answers basic questions regarding library services, collections and departments. Trains and supervises circulation student workers. Tracks statistical data regarding library usage. 

Examples

Uses the integrated library management system for checking materials in and out of the library collection. Assists with one-time and recurring collection and stacks maintenance projects such as weeding, collection inventory. Maintains departmental statistics. Trains and provides daily direction to student workers in the department, as needed. Maintains reserve and inter-library loan collections. Serves on library and university committees, elected, and assigned. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operation of Moffett Library. Work is performed independently and under general supervision.

Physical Condition

Some moderate lifting required.

Experience

Library experience is desirable. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated organizational, analytical, time management, and problem-solving skills. Experience with word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Knowledge

Ability to supervise an area of library operations without immediate supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library personnel, faculty, students, and other library patrons. Ability to keep and to supervise the maintenance of complex records and to submit required reports. Ability to plan, assign, and coordinate the work of circulation student workers.

Education

Bachelor's degree preferred. One year of college or research library experience (12 hours of applicable Library Science credit from an ALA accredited library school may be substituted for one year of academic library experience).

Must have the ability to be flexible with job responsibilities and exercise sound judgement. Self-directed and self-motivated learner with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a changing environment. Must maintain current professional knowledge through on-going reading, training, and participation in professional organizations. May work evenings.
