Title
Academic Recruitment Specialist
Description

Assists the Deans with administrative duties to provide leadership in the implementation of policies, practices, and programs which enable the colleges and University to achieve enrollment goals. Represents the University to the general public through scheduled presentations and assists with administrative duties in coordination of scheduling and hosting event sponsored by the College. Responsible for counseling prospective students, parents, educational administrators, and other interested persons to provide expert knowledge and advice on the colleges programs of study and admission requirements. Travels extensively throughout the state of Texas to high schools and junior colleges for recruitment/retention of prospective MSU students. Works independently to manage office procedures. Reports to the Deans of the College.

Examples

Coordinates and assists the Deans with weekly recruiting schedules. Counsels prospective students, applicants and their parents regarding eligibility status. Responds to emails, mail, telephone calls and in-person meetings that require admissions guidance or counseling. Revises and updates forms of publications, social media, web sites, and communication plans associated with the College. Assists with specialized tasks involving implementation of on-campus recruitment activities and special events such as prospective student programs within the colleges. Responsible for recruitment activities in selected geographical areas. Develops and maintains relationships with high schools, community colleges, and other community programs which impact recruitment. Assists in compiling reports; developing college specific recruitment materials; Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Must be able to drive independently and lift a minimum of 20 pounds.

Experience

One or more years of experience in a college or university environment, preferably in a related area such as student affairs, school relations and/or college admissions counseling.

Knowledge

Requires working knowledge of MSU admission policies and procedures, academic requirements, and residency policies, to include knowledge of admissions procedures for beginning freshmen, transfer students and re-enrolling MSU students. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and knowledge of commonly used computer software programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

Education

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in higher education student personnel or related field is preferred and may be substituted for experience.

Must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to plan and coordinate complex, cross-related tasks. Must be a strong, positive representative of Midwestern State University. Must have a team orientation; be adaptable, flexible, and cooperative; have strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to work with diverse populations.
