Title
Manager, Educator Preparation
Description

Responsible for managing the operation of the education preparation program including overseeing and coordinating field experience, clinical practice, certification, and testing functions. Monitors all certification programs to ensure alignment with Texas Administrative Code (TAC). Tracks all program changes for certification programs and reports changes to Texas Education Agency (TEA). Monitors changes to TAC and communicates any changes to all certification program personnel and faculty. Maintains documentation and evidence of all Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) testing data and program admission, observation reports, retention and completer data. Responsible for completion of certification-related accountability reports. Monitors data management system related to certification. Completes all official state certification documentation required for certification recommendation and approval of program completion. Creates, oversees, and implements office procedures for documentation, storage and retrieval of certification data. Verifies students’ successful completion of admission requirements for acceptance into the program. Completes offer of admission letters and reports admits to TEA by state reporting deadlines. Reports to the Dean of the College of Education and may serve on the Academic Advising Committee.

Examples

Advises teacher certification seeking students to ensure gpa, coursework, and transfer credits meet TEA standards and TAC. Advises students on programs of study, admissions into the Education Preparation Program, and degree completion protocols according to their specific certifications. Manages and assigns certification related content tutoring interventions. Monitors transition points/benchmarks as students’ progress through the program as required by TAC. Responsibilities include helping in the delivery, development, and implementation of effective academic counseling services as well as informational and academic advisor training programs and materials. Supervises part time undergraduate academic advisor. Works with special population students during and beyond the first academic year: Texas Success Initiative (TSI) responsible students, Conditionally Admitted students (ABR), and students identified as academically at-risk including First Year Probation (FYP), readmission, and suspension students. Works with students who need to re-evaluate their major or degree program choices and may need intervention and/or referral to campus services. Participates in high school outreach programs and community college recruitment events and relevant program presentations.

Assists certification programs in establishing certification testing sequence and schedule according to current TEA governance and program requirements. Oversees approval of all certification testing. Verifies eligibility status of students registering for TExES exams or other accredited certifying bodies. Verifies, approves, and oversees placements and students for Clinical Teaching, Internships, and Practicums.

Physical Condition
Experience

A minimum of two years of academic experience in higher education preferred. Should also be experienced in the use of computer software programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook and familiarity with Banner or similar student Information systems preferred. Experience assisting distance and nontraditional students is helpful.

Knowledge

Must have knowledge of or be able to quickly learn the curricula and requirements of the College's various programs and the university's core curriculum. Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skill.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

Must have a demonstrated interest in working with and assisting students. Must be able to handle a heavy volume of student traffic. Must be able to work on multiple projects concurrently. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. *Regular reliable attendance is required. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *Designated as a Responsible Employee as outlined by Title IX. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check.
