Title
Manager, Educator Preparation
Description

Responsible for managing the operations of the Educator Preparation Program (EPP), including overseeing certification, academic advising, and testing functions. Ensures alignment of all certification programs with the Texas Administrative Code (TAC) and communicates any changes to personnel and faculty. Tracks and reports candidate program changes to the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Maintains documentation for Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) testing data, program admission, checks observation reports, monitors retention, and completer data. Manages certification-related accountability reports and data systems. Completes official certification documentation for recommendation and program completion. Establishes office procedures for documentation, storage, and retrieval of certification data. Verifies the successful completion of program admission requirements and reports admits to TEA by deadlines. Collaborates with college leadership on program catalog changes. Serves on several university and college committees, including the Teacher Education Committee, Adult Education Recruitment, Testing and Tutoring Intervention, and Educator Preparation Program Leadership team. Reports to the Dean of the College of Education.

Examples

Advises teacher certification seeking students to ensure gpa, coursework, and transfer credits meet TEA standards and TAC. Advises students on programs of study, admissions into the Education Preparation Program, and degree completion protocols according to their specific certifications. Manages and assigns certification related content tutoring interventions. Monitors transition points/benchmarks as students’ progress through the program as required by TAC. Responsibilities include helping in the delivery, development, and implementation of effective academic counseling services as well as informational and academic advisor training programs and materials. Supervises part time undergraduate academic advisor. Works with special population students during and beyond the first academic year: Texas Success Initiative (TSI) responsible students, Conditionally Admitted students (ABR), and students identified as academically at-risk including First Year Probation (FYP), readmission, and suspension students. Works with students who need to re-evaluate their major or degree program choices and may need intervention and/or referral to campus services. Participates in high school outreach programs and community college recruitment events and relevant program presentations.

Assists certification programs in establishing certification testing sequence and schedule according to current TEA governance and program requirements. Oversees approval of all certification testing. Verifies eligibility status of students registering for TExES exams or other accredited certifying bodies. Verifies, approves, and oversees placements and students for Clinical Teaching, Internships, and Practicums.

Experience

A minimum 3-5 years of experience in educator preparation programs or a related field in higher education preferred. Experience in teacher certification processes, including familiarity with Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards and Texas Administrative Code (TAC). Should also be experienced in the use of computer software programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook and familiarity with Banner or similar student Information systems such as Navigate360 and/or TargetX by Liaison preferred

Knowledge

Comprehensive knowledge of Texas Administrative Code (TAC) and Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards related to educator certification. Familiarity with Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) and other certification exams. Strong communication skills (both written and oral) for effectively communicating with students, faculty, TEA, and various stakeholders. Ability to interpret and apply regulations such as the TAC and TEA guidelines. Organizational skills for managing multiple responsibilities, deadlines, and data systems. Attention to detail in verifying eligibility, certification documentation, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Problem-solving skills to assist students who need to re-evaluate their academic programs and intervene with at-risk populations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative in managing projects and programs.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required, Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, or a related field is preferred. 

Additional Requirements

Must have a demonstrated interest in working with and assisting students. Must be able to handle a heavy volume of student traffic. Must be able to work on multiple projects concurrently. Availability to travel occasionally for recruitment events, outreach programs, and conferences (e.g., CSOTTE). A valid Texas driver's license (or ability to obtain one) if travel is required for outreach and recruitment purposes. Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner, particularly related to student records and certification processes.
